Through an agreement made between the queen of Peregran, Zoei Fantasy, and the leader of the Knights of Tomath, Karos the White, in order to bost the morale of the citizens of Nerin Toth, we The Council of Twelve at The Epicenter of Eonia proudly present to you......

THE GREAT RACE!

Teams of three will operate sky ships, travel on land, use horses, ride in boats, drive wagons, and run as fast as they can to see who will become the winners of The Great Race.

The Race will take part all across Nerin Toth, starting in the city of Peregren, and continuing all across The Desolation known as Nerin Toth.

The winning team will receive 45,000 Gold (points) to split amongst themselves.

The second place team will receive 30,000 Gold (points) to split amongst themselves.

The third place team will receive 15,000 Gold (points) to split amongst themselves.

A 3,000 point entry fee is required from each team, in order to participate.

Come join The Great Race, and be a part of history!

When Erron had first heard about The Great Race, he laughed. Where others were being encouraged to join, he and Turk'en were being forced...

Drug through the streets like dogs. That's what they were. Like dogs. At least the people of Peregren believed so.

The human's knees scraped against the pavement, tearing holes through his pants. The weapons he carried we held by the guards. His companion beside him received the same treatment.

The guards yanked them by chains collared around their necks to the city square, where massive airships all floated in the night sky overhead. Thousands of people gathered in this spot. It had been advertised from Peregren all the way to The Epicenter, to the shores of Azure, and even to the far off land of Nju Shenghuo.....

The Great Race!

Zoei Fantasy had worked night and day brokering a deal, and finally she had reached an agreement with The Dukes of Greyshore, the Knights of Tomath, and The 12 Elders of The Epicenter.

She had agreed to go along with what the dwarvess and The Dukes wanted the land surrounding Peregren for, and in return, the two pardons she had requested would be granted.

The two men were drug by their chains to stand in front of a visiting Knight of Tomath named Viktor. Viktor, looked at the two and slapped the human's companion hard across the face.

"SCUM! YOU AND YOU'RE FRIEND TRIED TO DAMN US ALL!" Viktor shouted, in angry tones.

The human lurched forward to attack Viktor, but guards yanked on the chain holding him back.

"That will be enough, Viktor. Return to Greyshore at once. Your superior wishes to speak to you there regarding an encounter you had with his.....daughter," a voice said.

A Knight who was in his late sixities with long white hair stepped forward. "I am General Krelt. I only answer to Sir Karos the White, leader of the Knights of Tomath. We brokered the deal for your pardons, for your crimes against humanity and all of Nerin Toth...but you shall not receive these pardons unless you win in The Great Race. Understood?" General Krelt finished.

The human captive spit in the general's face. A guard brought the butt of his spear into the back of the neck of the human dropping him to his knees. The human's companion lunged toward the guard but was yanked backwards.

"If you win," General Krelt stated, wiping the spit from his eye, "you will not receive the enormous reward, as would any other crew. You will simply be pardoned. However if you lose....you will both be put to death....by hanging from the neck until you die."

The human looked at his companion. The two nodded to each other.

"Very good then. Your ship is over there," the general said pointing to a decrepit raft, held aloft by two hot air balloons, "further more, you will get no crew to help you in this. And all participants are already have the understanding that any who help you, will share your fate if you lose....and if you win, they will still suffer that same fate."

The collars were unlocked, but all of the guards held out their spears ready to attack. One guard handed the two their weapons.

"When this is over.....whether we win or not.....I'm going to kill you," whispered the human into the general's ear.

Erron and Turk'en headed to their ship.

Viktor turned to the crowd and smiled his heartbreaking smile. Some of the women in the swooned when he turned towards them. Victor moved to his mount, "See Gattaka, that Erron guy can't be as good as we are. Look how ugly he is. It's lucky for him that he was chained down. He would have fallen against my mighty blade and the grace and style of my perfect fighting form." Then Victor flexed his muscular arm showing and purposely posing so the ladies of the crowd could see.

Again they swooned. Some even fainted.

Victor just smiled. So many damsels to save.

Victor mounted Gattaka and started to take off. He must be off to Greyshore. Maybe to receive a commendation for personally protecting his Captains daughter.

Turk'en boarded the ship. His hair had grown out from the short cut he used to have. He tried to cover his identity. Being wanted for The Ravaging that happened to all of Aeon put Erron and Turk'en on the run for their lives. It was only happenstance that they had gotten caught in Peregren. It had been one year almost to the day of Tommy's death and although Turk'en and Erron didn't know the hero of the race of riverfolk that well, it was the day they chose to come back and pay their respects to those that had died. Old companions and new and unknown friends that helped them end the madness of Sabal. In the conclusion of the battle at Castle Stairin, the Knights of Tomath cast the blame of the entire war on Erron for being the King of the undead and Turk'en for being his companion and defender against the Knights. Regardless of all the good they did before getting caught in the Peregren cemetery, Erron and Turk'en were still taken as Nerin Toth's most wanted criminals. It was Zoei Fantasy that kept them from the gallows and then Karos' idea to give them a sporting chance to be free.

"I guess that he forgave himself enough to gain his honor back." Thought Turk'en.

Their wasn't much that Turk'en and Erron spoke aloud about. Anyone that recognized them would either run them out of town or try and kill them for the bounty on their heads.

The two hunters had decided long ago to only speak their thoughts via their mental link. Life wasn't easy for the two hunters, but it wasn't always just the two. After the Battle at Castle Stairin, Erron had a soul back and was mortal again. Aldion was brought back from death to hunt once again with the two fugitives and to watch over the infant Tal'Kren, a baby from an alternate future that Turk'en had apparently sired with an avatar of The Goddess of Vengeance. Tal'kren was one of the most powerful people on all of Aeon. His mother, a deity. His father, one of the most feared combatants to walk Aeon. And he was only 9 months old.

The quartet had been separated by a small horde of undead while trying to explore through Dead Town in search of a way to stop the undead. Dead Town was rumored to be built on the ruins of The Shining City, or so the old books used to say. The royal family of Drakoni that resided there so many years ago wielded a different kind of magic that had not been seen in Nerin Toth. Turk'en wanted to search for this magic and Erron wanted to kill undead. It was a win/win argument. Then the horde came and separated the four hunters. Aldion and Tal'Kren on one side and Turk'en and Erron on the other side. Turk'en yelled for them to meet back up in Jemeroth and then he lost his friend and son in the flood of undead. Turk'en and Erron fought their way out of Dead Town, but weren't able to make it to Jemeroth right away. Turk'en thought it best to keep clear of Aldion and Tal'Kren. Give them a chance to make their own mark. It didn't hurt that Aldion was still considered a Hero of Nerin Toth. Turk'en and Erron wandered on their own, away from the other two hunters eventually making it to Peregren every couple of years to pay their respects to the heroes of Nerin Toth.

It was one of these such meetings that caught the attention of the Knights. When Turk'en and Erron made it back around they were surrounded and taken in.

Then the day of the race.
Turk'en didn't see any of their old companions and frankly he wasn't sure if they would recognize the two hunters or not. They were in this to win their freedom. Not that it was needed. Erron and Turk'en could have shadow walked out of the cell, but again Turk'en begged against it. He hoped to see his son again. At least a glance at him.

*Your going to blame me for all of this aren't you?* Thought Turk'en to Erron.

The two were hauled onto the ship and the race had begun. However once at flight on the airship, Erron and Turk'en realized things weren't as they had seemed.

Minotaurs.

The rulers of The Epicenter of Aeon and the Kingdom of Riddik, a kingdom easily as powerful as Peregren.

"You fools. There is no race. That twit Zoei Fantasy and her lackey Karos the White believed they were brokering your freedom. You monsters unleashed a horror on this world. And while these idiots of Nerin Toth may see you as souls who can still be redeemed, the King of Riddik does NOT!"

The minotaurs had taken Erron and Turk'en captive.

And all of this was how Erron and Turk'en had made their way to Riddik.

Browden wrote:
Browden was startled beyond belief when he saw the zombie vomit. He started to back up, axe ready.

As the three started to attack Browden, as well as the dead Isak, Browden wasnt sure what he was going to do...

Swinging in from out and above, a stranger elf uses a scythe to kill one of the zombies. He cries something about "Erron", but Browden doesn't listen as he takes advantage of the arrival's distraction. Browden hefts his axe up and slashes down, crushing a zombie and embedding the axe partly into the floor. Using the axe almost like a lever, he rushes the third undead and kicks the monster into the minotaur.

Then, with some "oomf", Browden pulls up his axe, ready for another swing.

Erron woke from his daze thinking of the past events of the last few months when he had heard a fight downstairs.

"Damn. The minotaur is here!" he though.

He ran down the stairs and to his astonishment he saw Aldion and Talk'ren!

"WHAT TH-- LOOK OUT!" he yelled diving knocking Aldion and the baby the elf held out of the way.

The minotaur zombie had tried to attack them.

"Browden kill that minotaur already! Aldion, get that baby upstairs where it's safe!" he screamed drawing his crossbow and firing putting a bolt into the forth zombies head.

With the fourth zombie dead, there was just one big one to deal with. While he didn't know any of the characters he was with, Browden did as he was told. When the minotaur began to attack, Browden swung his mighty axe, cutting the side and throwing the monster on its front.

With a huge and quick slash, Browden cut the zombies neck. Unfortunately, the minotaur wasn't dead a few minutes ago, and the taur zombie bled. Browden moved quickly and threw the broken door up, piled a bookcase and a table behind, being hopeful. He then claimed the fallen taur's axe as his own, and ran up the stairs after the others.

"Plans?" he asked panting.

Herod recovered from his fit of nausea and picked up his hammer again. Biting back the nasty taste of bile that was in his mouth he turned to the man that entered with a child

"What's a wee babe doin' in a place like this anyway?"

Erron prepared to lift the doorway back into place to barricade it when he saw two Sprinters running through the pack of slower Horde Zombies rushing toward the house.

"DAMN IT!" he yelled slamming the door against the door frame in a crooked manner. One of the Sprinters had reached between the crack of the door frame and the door propped up in it's crooked manner. Erron slammed his body against the door to keep it shut, but the Sprinter who had stuck his arm around the door grasped Erron's throat and began to squeeze.

Erron didn't dare fight back against the Sprinter squeezing his throat. If he did, it would take his body weight off of the door and the two Sprinters would burst through. But he was being choked to death. He tried to scream out for help.

No air in his lungs.

No air meant no speech.

Erron couldn't scream for help as he was being choked to death. And the others were all upstairs, unaware of the Erron's situation.

"So... I'm back."

Popurum looked at the time he left behind and came back to.

He abandoned his love for this. He left his son for this.

How odd it was. To be here, now. Generations of his family were dead. She was dead...

The love lived though. And he would make her proud.

Popurum combed the metropolis looking for... something.

Finally, he stopped several undead attacking a shut door, obviously being held closed. However it seemed the dead were winning.

Popurum started casting, and soon, he was hoping across large gaps to other roofs.

When he got to the roof of the house the undead were attacking. He started casting again, and this time a force of energy shot down and pummeled the zombie at the door.

Before his jump spell wore off, he managed to slip into an upstairs room.

And there he saw him... his eyes grew wide with wonder, and he smiled.

"Aldion?" In a blur, Popurum was hugging Aldion.

"I found him, Cal..."

Erron was starting to pass out when he heard a loud burst of energy hit something outside of the door. The Sprinter let go of his throat and Erron feel forward gasping for breath, unable to call for help still.

Out of the frying pan into the fire.

The other Sprinter smashed in the door knocking it on top of Erron squishing him between the door and the floor. The Sprinter who had been hit by the energy blast shot up and sprinted into the door way, stopping on the wooden door with the other Sprinter.

Now Erron was suffocating!

He couldn't breathe!!!

Again!

And then he saw them. The two Sprinters stepped off of the door not noticing him underneath it. Erron didn't dare move.

The very slowly and quietly walked around the room for a moment.

Popurum wrote:

Both Sprinters turned their heads toward the ceiling. They walked to the stairs.

Erron didn't move.

Aldion ran up the stairs, Tal held securely in his arm. He'd seen and fought many things, but nothing could prepare him for this.

Just as he cleared the last stair, Poporum grabbed him in a hug. "Oh by every absent god! Not you again! I thought you lost my trail after Krest?!" he said in a loud whisper. He freed himself of the Riverfolk's grasp, and made way to the corner of the room.

He heard the steps creak, something was coming. He signaled Poporum to him and handed over Tal, "If anything happens to he child, I will find, you kill you, or worse, make you explain what to his father!"

He stepped in front of the two, hold Reaver in one hand and his black longsword in the other. The two sprinters came up the stairs and immediately eyed the fresh meat, they growled and got down on all fours. "What the hell are you?" he asked, just as the beasts shot towards him with breakneck speed.

"Holy shit!" he yelled, stabbing his longsword into the gut of one, and taking out one's left ankle. "Anytime someone wants to help," he said, grabbing his kamas as the sprinters started to get back up....

Erron heard Aldion yell.

Wait?

He heard Aldion yell?!? What the hell was he doing here!? Furthermore where was Tal'kren!?

Erron shoved the door off of him, with a thud.

Horde zombies, the ones he was used to fighting, all turned toward the sound of the thud from within the house. Hundreds of them. They weren't as fast as the Sprinters, but Erron still wasn't taking any chances when all of them ran toward the house.

Erron shoved himself up, and ran for the stairs, grabbing his crossbow along the way. The string had snapped on it. He'd have to repair it later. He bound up the stairs skipping steps.

"Aldion! We've got--"

The ENTIRE house shook. The hundreds of zombies all slammed into the front of it trying to get in the doorway at once. They began pouring through.

"SHIT! ALDION THERE'S--" he was cut off when he ran right into the back of one of the Sprinter, both he and the undead falling down onto the floor.

Erron scrambled to his feet and saw the other one getting up to go after the dwarf, the riverfolk holding Tal'kren, and Aldion.

"Handle that one!" he yelled pulling off his trenchcoat. The Sprinter he had ran into was getting up fast. Erron was just in the nick of time. He wrapped his coat around the Sprinter's head to stop it from biting.

"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN HOW FAST YOU ARE! YOU AREN'T BITING THROUGH LEATHER!!" he yelled holding the coat controlling the monsters head as it struggled against him. he brought his knee up and felt bone crack. He did it again and again and again. Finally it quit struggling, when it's nose had been forced into it's brain.

Erron dropped the beast, his coat still wrapped around it's head, and looked up at the doorway of the bedroom, when the hundreds started pouring up the stairway and into the hall that led to the small bedroom they were in.

"ONE OF YOU TAKE OUT THAT SPRINTER! I'll watch the door..." he said smiling pulling out his two kopeshes.

The Hellfolk had fled her culture. She wasn't completely evil like the rest of them.(But she was a Hellfolk of course, she couldn't be completely good either.) She felt that all that the rest of them did was wrong. All wrong. Twisted. Evil.

Aelemar walked slowly, cautiously, searching for any available resources.

"GGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

No. She thought. One heard me! She quickly crawled up a wall with her spider-like ability given to her by her cloak. She hurried up, about five streets South, a building, surrounded by a gigantic horde of the dead. On the street below two of them were watching her. She dropped. Her maul decapitating one zombie and then slicing off the other's scalp, and the brain in half. A moaning continued. Aelemar spun around. A head. Only a head. It snapped at her ankle. With a single thud it was dead. She looked up fearing what lay ahead, a HUGE stiff was standing in front of her. Aelemar sprinting as fast as her short legs could carry her, ran to find somewhere to hide.

Browden ignored the Aldion and Popurum reunion. He didn't know either of them anyway. He was focused on Erron and the undead charing the house. He didn't like being in these (small for him) rooms with so many. He was best with his two-handed and plenty of range.

Instead, he threw his double over his back into a special sling to hold it. He grabbed his new axe and focused on using that. While Aldion took one, Erron called for someone to take the Sprinter going for the dwarf.

Browden charged and swung the axe with one hand in a wide swing. Since the sprinter was after the dwarf, it was caught a bit off guard, but instead of the neck, the face was given a deep gash.

Browden then twisted his wrist and swung again... His use of the slower, but more fluid (at least for him) axe made this weapon a rusted skill for him. Though he was more comfortable with it than fists. The second blow sliced the bottom jaw off the beast. Browden had hoped for more damaging of an attack...

All Aelemar could do was run, she tried to stop but she wouldn't let herself.
She rounded a corner and was facing an army of the undead. She couldn't stop. Still running, attacking as she bolted. The house! The one she had seen on the wall. She began climbing up the side. A hole in the roof let her in. "What's was this, now?" She said to herself as she fell in. "A darkling baby?" eying the child. Seeing no point in conversing as they fought. Before jumping into the frey she dipped her maul in a jar of Hellfolk blood. Slowly approaching the sprinter.

With the bottom jaw of the sprinter cleaved off, Herod swung his hammer into the skull of the sprinter, taking it off cleanly.

"We're needed outta this crypt! I'm not fer dying in the freezin' cold with a bunch of strangers!", Shouted Herod. Then he looked to the riverkin, "How'er one of yer kind be getting down here? Move with the child or yer be feelin' me hammer, yer will!"

Things were looking pretty grim for the group. "I've a pack near the southern wall of the cace I came in from with blast sticks innit. We can make a way out if we cin be getting to it."

Herod ran back up to the other side of the room. Then he turned to wait for his nex victim.

Erron stepped toward the doorway with both blades drawn, when the Hellfolk came through the hole in the roof into the bedroom.

She had come up behind the sprinter to kill it, but the Herod and Browden were already on it.

"GIRL! Get the riverfolk and that baby onto the roof now!" Erron screamed at the Hellfolk.

He didn't trust Hellfolk. No one on Aeon did. but if his closest friend was a Darkling....NO! IS a Darkling. he had to still be alive!

Erron didn't get to finish the thought. The horde poured through, breaking down part of the wall of the bedroom, making the doorway to the hall, as wide as the room itself!

The scene was something from nightmares. At lest 30 of the undead crashed through. The room was barely 8 feet wide by eight feet wide. The undead climbed on one another. they were like a mass of army ants scrambling to devour a dead locust.

Erron fell back. With an undead landing on him.

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!" he screamed at everyone trying to hold the zombie back. The undead on top of him retched as if it were going to puke on Erron's face soon.

____________________________________________

Aldion grabbed his longsword from the dead Sprinter, and told Poporum to get Talkren to safety.

One of the wall's gives way and Erron is over run by a small horde, he tells the others to run to safety, but Aldion manages to beat the zombies off of him, keeping them at bay with Reaver.

Listening to his great great grandson and hero, Poporum leapt from the building into the window of another, barely managing to grab a curtain and land safely.

Below the turmoil, two zombies fought for a dead cat accidently knocking loose a gas line. They continued to fight for the small snack, until a small flame on the stove top kicked in.

Erron managed to shadowwalk Aldion to the building Poporum and Talkren were in, but was unable to get back to the others before the building exploded.

The remainder of the group survived, but were blown to a completely other building. Aldion and teh group wanted to go for them but Erron spoke up.

"We have to wait. That explosion is going to attract a lot more than this," Erron stated, as he saw Browden notice Aldion, Erron and Popurum see that they were band up and bruised, but for the most part, OK.

"We have to wait for the impending horde to come. Wait until it disperses before we can re-group."

Aldion stumbled after the Shadow walk, "Takes awhile to get used to that again..." he said catching himself on a night table. "I wish the spin would stop rooming," he muttered to himself.

After a moment, he felt confident enough to walk. He walked over to Poporum, "I thank you for safe guarding the child, riverkin. It was brave of you, I apologize for my harshness earler," he said, taking Tal'Kren.

Erron announced the plan, and Aldion nodded his agreement. He looked at the child, then over to Erron, "Heard anything from Turk?" he asked, giving Tal a make shift pacifier...

Erron watched out the window, staring at the undead in the streets.

"No," he said softly, "he's somewhere in Riddik," he finished not believing his own lie.

He didn't know if Turk'en was alive or not. But he vowed if Turk'en had become one of the undead, by some unfortunate ircumstance, he would kill him himself.

It's what Turk'en would want.

"Look," Erron said nodding at the window.

As Aldion and Popurum walked over they all three stared down in the street.

One of the minotaurs that had followed Erron and Browden a few hours ago still lived. It didn't looked harmed, and must have escaped the undead during the mass confusion.

It stayed low behind what might have possibly been a horse stable.

"Maybe he can be an ally to us, at least until we escape this place," Erron commented.

It was at that point that they saw the minotaur run. He should have stayed put. But fear can do odd things to a person. Even minotaurs.

It ran through the streets. a Horde zombie neared it, and the minotaur slashed upward with it's axe, catching the zombie in the stomach and sending it flying. That was all it took though, several more zombies began chasing him. Luckily for the minotaur none of them were as fast as the Sprinter zombies. Unluckily for the minotaur however, was that it had backed itself into a corner between two buildings. The zombies all slowed their pace and slowly walked toward him.

As they neared him, one of them began convulsing. It shook as if it were having a seizure, bile and drool dripping from it's mouth. It shook more violently now, and tossed it's head backwards and moaned loudly.

And then it exploded.

It was as if it had had a bomb inside of it. Gore covered the minotaur.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?" yelled Erron, forgetting they should stay quiet.

The minotaur coughed and fell to his knees and the rest of the horde left him alone. The minotaur began convulsing, and dropped down to the ground on his side in the fetal position. He shook uncontrollably and then lay perfectly still.

"Aldion....what was that thing. I've never seen a stiff blow up on it's own," Erron whispered.

And then the unthinkable happened.

The minotaur slowly stood up.

A limped forward, it's mouth agape as it joined the zombie horde.

Herod got up after the room relocated onto another building. He was banged up and bruised, but nothing seemed broken, he looked around to make sure the others were ok.

"Lets not be doin' that again." Whispered Herod gruffly.

He checked his belongings. Everything was intact.

Then he heard the commotion from below them. Off to the side the dwarf saw the minotuar running and duck behind a building. He thought he heard a sickening sound. Almost like an explosion. A few minutes later the minotuar stumbled out and joined the zombie horde.

"Great Ghosts!"

Herod looked over the edge of the broken roof with shock and dismay on his face.

"It ne'er even got a fightin' chance."

Erron could see the dwarf, across the street, watching the minotaur. The look on the old dwarf's face told Erron he was just as shocked.

"Riverfolk, what ever your name is" Erron addressed Popurum, "...give Aldion, Tal'kren. I need you to use your magic to get me to that building with the others. Browden and the dwarf both seem to be on our side. I'm still not sure about that Hellfolk though."

As Herod watched the minotaur, he saw a lone zombie slowly stumble into the front door of the building he and the Hellfolk and Browden were on top of.

The dwarf hadn't seen it. "Damn! How can I let him know there's on in that building now?" Erron said.

Erron took in his surroundings. The building they were in could certainly be fortified against the undead, as long as they did have as many to contend with again. However, the building the dwarf was on couldn't. The force from a second roof landing on it, didn't do any favors for the building's structure, and it seemed ready to collapse at any moment. In addition to these things, the window to the room had a score of undead directly below it, still curious if the heroes were still in the building that had blown up next door.

Then it hit him.

Erron took the baby from Popurum and handed it to Aldion.

He then grabbed Popurum, and before the riverfolk could protest, Erron shoved him hard through the glass and out of the third story window.

"We'll be right back," he said to Aldion. He then jumped out of the window after Popurum.

Herod looked even more shocked when he saw the man with the long coat jump out the window after the riverkin. He wasn't sure what to think.

"He's gone daft, and he's taking that litter fella wit 'em! Lets go folks. We're needin' to get offa here 'fore it becomes our cairn. We need to move to another building. I've some rope, maybe we can reach the other roof and slide down to it."

Herod got into his pack and pulled out his rope. Oblivious to the zombie making his way through the house below him.

Erron caught the dwarf step into action as he flew through the air.

"Good," he thought, "he understands I'm distracting the stiffs."

Erron's body weighing more allowed him to catch up to Popurum as they fell. He grabbed the riverfolk, and twisted letting himself land on top of all of the zombies first. He heard bones snap. Thankfully they weren't his. Most of the zombies were just Horde zombies and Erron and Popurum were able to get to their feet. However they were easily surrounded by at least 60 undead.

Erron pulled out his blades and swung at a stiff.

He missed and dropped to one knee holding shoulder losing his blade. First he had lost his coat. now one of his swords. This was not a good day. The arrow he had taken earlier in the evening had done more damage then he had initially thought.

"Get out of here! Get in the house NOW!" he yelled at Popurum, still on his knees in pain.

His plan to distract the undead had worked. None of them noticed the dwarf, Browden, or the hellfolk. But it had worked too well. All 60 plus undead turned toward Erron.

"GO!" he screamed at Popurum pushing himself up, and taking off running slamming his good shoulder into a zombie.

He pulled out his cross bow and had forgotten the string had snapped. He tossed it on the ground. It was no good to him. A zombie tackled Erron, but Erron grabbed one of his cross bow bolts and stabbed it in the eye and through the brain. Erron pushed the stiff off and began running away from Popurum through the crowd of zombies.

"GO!" he yelled again, as he disappeared into the horde.

The zombies all went after Erron......Popurum was no longer surrounded.

Popurum stood alone on the street.

Turk'en was stunned. He thought the little darkling was annoying but he would have never wanted this to happen to him. He had seen enough death in his long life. It still didn't settle right in his stomach. He was glad for the feeling of wanting to retch. He let him know he wasn't calloused to the pain of others.

Turk'en couldn't help but let his thoughts drift to Erron. Where was his friend, his companion, his fellow hunter. Turk'en hoped that Erron had remained free. His escape from Riddick wasn't clean. There were those that lost thier lives to help free the darkling. Those that Turk'en wouldn't forget and those that he would fulfill his promise too.

But today he needed out of Port Skell. This had happened to him before. he knew a way to get out but it was going to require speed and silence.

As he walked away from the edge of the roof that Kalan died from he spoke softly to the other two.

"We can escape if we can get to the docks and get a boat, but we need to move fast and silently. Only fighting when we need to and running away quickly. These stiffs are different. That one is giving them deductive reasoning somehow. Giving them an ioda of thinking. We need to avoid them as best we can. We can sail around to Alamier. I have no other idea's than to stay here and fight. We can get to Jemeroth if you wan to take the land route. I have a friend in Jemeroth if he's not out hunting for me.

The boat slammed hard into the pier destroying the ship and the wooden dock. Calhera jumped into the air hoping the ship would stop moving before she landed. She had thrown her red puke covered cloak into the face of the Puker.

The ship hadn't stopped moving but Calhera managed her footing when she landed.

The Puker lurched forward moaning, the red cloak still over it's face, it's arms outstretched reaching for the elven ranger.

"GRAH!" she screamed as she pulled out her glaive and thrust the end through the stomach.

The undead kept coming.

"What manner of creature are you?" she said astounded. The blow would have felled an ogre!

Calhera swung the glaive in a wide arc, slicing off the front half of the zombie's face.

It kept coming.

"By the light, die you bastard!" she screamed in bitter rage, tears pouring down her cheeks. "WHY WON'T YOU JUST DIE!!!???"

It lunged at her, the cloak falling off of it's face. Calhera dodged it, and ran for the smashed pier. She jumped up to the rail and off of it landing on the debris left over from where the pier met the brick streets of Port Skell. She looked around. it was mass confusion. Every single ship in sight had undead eating crew and captain alike. Knights of some sort, that Calhera had never seen before walked as the dead chasing down anyone they could find to devour.

"Madness..." she whispered softly in awe.

"The roofs," she said aloud to no one in particular.

Calhera found a broken old ladder and was able to make use of it to climb up onto a roof. She ran and jumped to another roof. Before she knew it, she was terribly lost.

"Popurum.....love....where are you?" she said collapsing to her knees on one of the roofs, crying.

Aarowic followed after the darklings and listened to them.

"To the boats? Sounds like a good idea..."

As he was getting ready to head for the shore, a glint of someone else on the roofs caught his eyes.

"Hold, I see a woman crossing the roofs."

Aarowic pointed to what was likely an elven woman. She was fleeing from the docks into the city. However, she seemed lost.

"What a terrible time to come into the city."

Calhera looked to the stars in the sky through tear filled eyes. There were none. Just gray clouds in a black night.

"Oh Popurum," she whispered to herself, "why is this happening? Why are--"

The building suddenly shook hard as one of the Brutes slammed into. It saw Calhera on top and punched out an entire wall! The entire house shifted and calhera started sliding down toward the beast.

"SOMEONE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she screamed in terror.

That did it. Aarowic took off, jumping across roofs and bounding as fast he could. Between one leap, he pulled out his bow and felt in his quiver for an arrow.

A leap was coming soon, so he picked one hastily. After he jumped to the next roof, very close to the elf woman, he aimed his arrow and fired, not waiting for it to hit, he charges again.

The arrow hits. Its a rope arrow. The brute zombie's head is tangled in robe and thread. Not much help with its strength unfortunately.

Aarowic rounds around awhile. When he jumps onto the collapsing building, he's facing the same way as the brute. He throws his bow over his shoulder and snags the woman in his arms. As the building starts to crumble and lean towards the brute, Aarowic runs up the tilting roof. With a final, strong jump, he throws the woman onto the next, intact roof. He's able to grab the edge and pull himself up.

Though panting, he's able to say, "We have to... keep moving... Never... scream..."

After a second, he gets up and pulls the woman up and points towards the darklings. Knowing the brute would be after them again, and the hordes probably heard her scream, they needed to find a boat and get out of the city quickly.

"What's happening!? What are these things!? Why are they eating people!?" Calhera cried loudly, tears staining her cheeks as she fell into the chest of the aniver hitting him in the chest with her fist. Not out to do damage, but out of frustration and fear. She was so alone. So very alone.

"P-please....please tell me, what's happened to the world? How did it die?" she asked crying softly, resting her head on the broad chest of Aarowic.
