Aarowic's ears pinned back as the woman hit him, crying. He held her to comfort her, but he was confused and uncomfortable. How could anyone not know what was happening? Still, she'd nearly died. Aarowic just assumed she was stressed and frightened.

"Listen," he said trying to keep a balance of hurried, but calming. "I realize this is hard for everyone. Things are bad, and they're likely not getting better for Port Skell. I don't know about your friends or family, but my allies and I are trying to escape by boat. I believe you should come with us. If you can hold it together till we get on a ship, I'll hopefully have both shoulders to cry on."

He looked into her eyes. He was probably as afraid as she was. Years of researching and hunting didn't take away fear. At most, it was masked. All he wanted to do was get to a ship.

Popurum stood there confused about what he was pushed out the window for. After the guy with the coat ran off, he stood there alone.

Then it dawned! He pulled out his trident and charged into the house under Herod and the others. He stayed cautious, knowing of the undead in the building and the building itself was very damaged. Popurum crept around silently, avoiding doorways if he couldn't see anything.

He started heading upstairs one step at a time. The building didn't like even his feet stepping up them. The house started to grown and Pop could feel the stairs' fragility. He used the walls to help cushion each step, but about two steps from the second floor landing, the stair crashed under him. He started to fall, but his arms caught the edge and he hung there, trying to pull himself up.

The crash was loud enough to catch the ears (or ear holes) of the zombie. It shuffled its way out of one of the downstairs rooms and up to Popurum. Unfortunately, the position he was in didn't give Popurum the chance to fight the approaching zombie. His trident was in his right hand, but he was facing the second floor. He squirmed and fought to get up.

The zombie began hurrying up the stairs towards Popurum, and the riverfolk couldn't do anything to stop it. He felt below him. There was nothing he could step on, that he could feel. He certainly couldn't see what was below. Remembering he came in to help the others, he gave a loud yell hoping the dwarf, hellfolk, or human could hear.

"Zombie coming up!"

Then Popurum let go of the edge and dropped...

"Hurry! Didn't you hear that Riverfolk?" Aelemar quickly said to them. She wanted desperately to grab the rope from the Dwarf. He was so slow. But if she saved herself first they would never trust her. No one did. Even her own people. Aelemar needed their trust, who could live in a world with not a soul trusting you, not even your own family. "C'mon!" She yelled through her teeth.
Aelemar ran down the stairs to help the riverfolk.

The blast caused some ringing in Browden's ears. When he got up, he saw Erron, the riverfolk and his hugger in the other building. He went to see how the hellfolk and dwarf. They didn't seem too battered up. The dwarf got to pulling out rope and was saying something. The ringing in his ears settled. In the left ear he could hear the last of the dwarf saying something about someone being daft. In the right ear, Browden didn't hear anything...

Browden's good ear heard the riverfolk's cry, but didn't want to leave the dwarf's side yet. However, the hellfolk ran down to help the riverfolk, that somehow managed to get below. The building was so weak right now, it might be cause more trouble if he went after her, but he didn't like people fighting undead without him.

"Damn," he said carefully following the hellfolk, axe in hand.

Herod finished pulling his rope out and quickly lasso'd the adjoining chimney that was lower than where they were and tied it off on a big chunk of stone that broke off the wall.

"Let's be going a'fore them stiffs make it this way. With all that screamin' from down below, I'm amazed they aren't here nippin' at our boots already."

Herod turned to browden, "You first biggie, make sure your securin' the line as soon as ye get down. Now git!"

Herod turned back towards the stairwell as he braced the rope from this end.

"Now, where be that Hellkin?"

Erron had an entire horde after him.

He had lost one of his swords.

He had lost his coat.

He had lost his crossbow.

Turk'en was probably dead.

A zombie tried to puke on him.

He had been shot with an arrow.

Minotaurs hated him.

He was forced to walk through a blizzard.

He almost fell off of a cliff in this stupid cave.

He had gotten sea sick on his voyage from Riddik.

He hadn't eaten or slept in two days.

"I can't believe I miss Sabal," he said to himself running from the horde.

He rounded a corner of a building. He had to lose the undead before it was too late, but he also had to give Popurum time to get the dwarf, hellfolk, and Browden time to switch houses. Erron climbed up onto a wagon and jumped landing halfway on top of a barn stable. his shoulder burned with pain where he had been shot, but he forced himself up anyways. He ran to the end of the stable and looked back. About ten of the sixty were trying to climb up, but were failing miserably.

Erron jumped off of the other end of the stable and lost about ten more. he ran around a house, losing five more, and then between two old out houses losing yet another five. In two minutes time he had lost half of the horde.

Erron rounded the block and started a slow jog back toward the houses where the others were. That was when he heard growling behind him.

A Sprinter!

"Oh no!" he said and started running as fast as he could.

He could see the houses, and the dwarf was tying off of a rope on the roof. Aldion watched out the window of the other house.

Erron pushed himself to run harder, but there was no outrunning the Sprinter. It was so close he could hear it behind him.

Then he saw it. A shadow from one of the buildings. Erron juked to the right and headed for the shadow. The Sprinter was only a few yards back.

"COME ON!" he yelled running as fast as he could.

Erron skidded to a halt and spun around letting the Sprinter dive at him. The undead slammed into him and as they fell backwards Erron teleported...

...when Erron re appeared he was on the same roof as the dwarf on the other side of it. He held only the Sprinter's head, having teleported it off of the undead's body. The head snapped at him and tried to bite him.

"GAH!" he yelled and tossed the head over the edge of the roof.

Erron collapsed to his knees, sweat dripping off of him.

"Got any water?" he asked the dwarf through parched lips.

He had lured every single undead away from the houses....all except the one inside.

Browden was about to follow the hellfolk after the riverfolk, but he barely caught the dwarf's instructions. He grabbed hold of the rope, and while the dwarf held it, shimmied quickly down to the chimney. He removed the rope from the broken piece and looked for something to secure it to.

At the edge of the roof, there was a pillar jutting out from the house, a jutting house ornament. He quickly tied off the rope around the hook shaped ornament. Still, he held the rope for extra support, if needed.

"Get the hellfolk and anyone else down here!"

Looking nearly identical to the creature standing next to him, a very bedraggled looking young humanoid wondered exactly how this group had managed to survive with all these zombies around. For him, of course, it was no problem. He'd been to how many worlds with zombies? He'd been turned into a werebadger, survived possession by his half-brother, been tortured endlessly, and endured countless other equally painful things. This should be a piece of cake, the small guy thought, but looking at the rag-tag group scrambling about, Hobmocker that maybe surviving zombies must have gotten harder, or maybe he'd just gotten better at it.

"What are you yelling about," the kender finally piped up to the riverfolk he'd snuck up on. "And for that matter, where are we and how did I get here? Where is here? Did I end up back on Krynn? Faerun? Barovia? Have you seen Erron? Oh wait!? Is that mangled piece of man....well...demonish flesh him? He looks like shit. Time for me to save his ass again? Figures."

Popurum quickly put his hand over the stranger's mouth to hush him. In a quiet whisper, Popurum replied, "Shh! Dead things."

He then pointed up at the broken hole from where he fell. He heard noises rushing down the stairs, but he couldn't tell if it was the zombie or something or someone else. He wondered how to get out to Aldion.

"Where's the riverfolk and hellfolk?" Erron asked the dwarf, "By the way the name's Erron."

Erron checked on the arrow wound he had received earlier in the day.

"Damn," he thought, "infected." Luckily it wasn't the kind of infection that the zombies had, but still it would get bad if he didn't find a Knight to heal it, or someone to clean it soon.

"You said something a little bit ago, about some type of boom sticks or explosives you had hidden here, right? What if we got to them, and set a trap in the middle of this town?" he asked.

Before the dwarf could answer though, both he and Erron noticed another rooftop a few blocks away. On the roof stood a lone figure. It was hard to tell if they were male or female but they did have long hair, and a long black cape. The figure slowly walked to the other side of the roof he was on out of their view.

"Who the hell is that?" Erron asked confused.

There was the screech of a howler again, coming from below them. Akarmis's eardrums felt like they were near bursting, and he fell to his knees with his hands over his ears.

He wiped blood away from his ears and nose, "We need to move," he said, his ears still ringing. Turk may have answered, but he couldn't hear a thing. Years of gunfire with no ear protection, then these howlers, not great for his hearing.

He drew a pistol, not like he could attract any more at this point, and shot the leg of a zombie climbing for Aarowic. The leg buckled and the zombie fell to the streets below.

Akarmis waved his arms, and pointed towards the docks. Zombies were making their way up the walls, the ground started to shake, alerting them that a Brute was on the move.

"We can't get to you!" Akarmis yelled, not sure if they could hear him. He jumped to a rooftop, and waved for the others to follow...

Calhera saw Akaramis waving his arms and pointing.

"NO!" she screamed, knowing the horrors of what she had seen when she had gotten off of the boat. She couldn't be hear though. No one could. The Howlers were too much.

So she ran, leaping to another roof, using her glaive as a support.

Every boat she had seen, the crew had been over taken by the undead.

"COME ON!" she yelled at the strange aniver who had rescued her, not knowing if she could be hear or not.

Aarowic was still tired from the roof hopping and getting to the elf. The only thing that kept him going was adrenaline. The howlers screech forced him to pin his ears down with his hands over them.

He bowed his head trying to block the sounds out. He opened his eyes to see what was happening. The elf was using her weapon moving across the roofs.

Aarowic couldn't hear anything, but he knew it was better that they didn't separate. He followed after her. Each jump to a roof was more tiring. He followed the elf obediently, however, and together they ran. He didn't know where, or care. So long as it was out of Port Skell.

The howling was excruciating. Turk'en could feel it resonating through him. He quickly pulled out a small candle from a pouch on his hip and broke off a couple of small pieces, handing two to Akarmis and working over two small pieces for himself. then he pushed them into his ears. It didn't take the horrid sound away but it did dampen it so he could think and it wasn't painful, just an annoyance now.

Turk'en followed Akarmis. Turk'en wished Erron was here. He could have shadow walked them to the dock, although he may have complained about the Anivers fur and being allergic, but given the situation Turk'en knew his friend and fellow Hunter wouldn't let them down.

But he wasn't here. He may not even be alive. Those Taurans were known for there brutality. He didn't want to think of the other outcome. There is now way Erron would have allowed himself to turn. He was reckless and fierce in his own right, which completely contradicted Turk'ens fighting style, but when the two were together they could hold off a horde of undead.

But he wasn't here. Turk'en made a silent vow to find his friend or his remains.

"C'MON AAROWIC, COME WITH THE WOMAN! WE NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS CURSED TOWN. IT HAS FALLEN. THE RULES OF BATTLE HAVE CHANGED. WE NEED TO TALK TO LADY ZOIE OF THESE NEW UNDEAD. SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED." Shouted Turk'en. If they didn't agree then he would see them to the boat and then leave on his own to Peregren. He knew he could sneak in. Going through the front door was out of the question.

"Stupid Race." mumbled Turk'en as he jumped from roof to roof following the other darkling.

He gladly took the wax and smushed it to fit in his ears. He nodded his thanks, then turned and fired his pistols at a stalker that had climbed up onto the roof behind them. Third shot blew through the skull, dropping the monster.

Knights fell and rose everywhere one looked, and Genesis walked calmly through the chaos, chuckling slightly. He pointed to the rooftops, then sprinters and stalkers started climbing rapidly, their eyes on the two darklings.

"Faster!" Akarmis yelled to Turk, turning to fire at the stalkers. They were everywhere!

The darkling was now a rooftop behind Turk at this point. He was becoming overwhelmed by the horde. He ran to jump to the next roof, when a stalker pounced on him, crashing him to the streets below.

"Quite a trouble maker, aren't you?" said Genesis as he slowly strode over to the downed hunter. Stalkers, sprinters, and even a brute surrounded him, but did nothing.

Akarmis was able to make a quick shot with his pistol, hitting Genesis in the stomach. It tore straight through, doing nothing to the undead.

"You really thought that work?" asked Genesis rhetorically. He chuckled, "Why do you fight it? Why hunt us? Its inevitable, I control them," he said making a grand gesture to the undead around them, "And soon, you, and your friends, will fall. How does that make you feel?" He asked, getting face to face with Akarmis.

The darkling said nothing, only headbutted the Zombie.

Genesis roared with anger. "Your friend had it easy, he died. His suffering has ended, and he's wherever the hell you want to believe your kind go," said the undead lord, drawing a sword from a dead knight. "Pray for mercy, pray to whomever you believe in that you die from this. Let me hear you!"

"Make no mistake, I will see you fall," said Akarmis defiantly.

Using the sword, he roughly hacked away at Akarmis's right ear, while the stalkers held him down. His companions could hear the screams, but couldn't make it to him. "Yes yes, you wouldn't be the first to say that," said Genesis off handedly.

Akarmis struggled against his captors, but to no avail. Genesis sneered and stabbed the sword through the dark elf's left arm. "Don't turn him or kill him, make him a warning to the others. Dead Town is ours, we will see what is the disturbance ourselves," was all he said before walking away...

____________________________________________________

The group made it to the docks, short one, that is. The area seemed relatively safe, seeing as most people fled inland, or back to sea. Turk led the group for one of the smaller boats, keeping a watchful eye all about them.

They heard an approaching roar, something big. The quickly hid themselves, as a large brute appeared on a rooftop, holding something over its head.

It threw the object their direction, and it crashed into a large, hardly coming close to them

The group inspected it, to find Akarmis unconscious. His right ear missing, his left arm torn off above the elbow, and his right eye had been ripped out. Blood poured from the stump of his arm, and he still breathed slightly...

Aarowic didn't even watch as the brute threw the body. He didn't want to see Akarmis mutilated. The aniver made a low growl, angry about what had happened in Port Skell. So many deaths and turns.

He had to get to Peregren. His journal was ready to turn in, and the officials needed to know what had happened to Port Skell.

Aarowic's damn curiosity got in the way and he looked at the body. The darkling was still alive. He had to suffer through all of it and the archer didn't have any potions. He didn't know of any options. He notched a regular arrow and aimed it at the skull...

"NO!!" Calhera screamed grabbing Aarowic's arm. She looked into the Aniver's eyes. He had a sense of worry about him. She stood close, and was much shorter, her warm breath against his neck as she spoke softly and looked into his eyes, her scent of jasmine and earth intoxicating to the aniver.

"Please...let me save him. I-I need to. Please she pleaded putting her hands on his chest softly. His fur was warm. And it seemed as if the aniver wanting to end so much agony kept a warm heart as well.

"Please," she said softly again.

An elderly man and his family, running to one of the boats stopped by to see what had happened. "By the stars!" he exclaimed as he saw Akarmis.

His wife covered the eyes of the grandchildren, tears streamed down her face. The children continued to ask what was happening, but the woman would say nothing.

The old man looked at Calhera, "I am Elric, and this is my wife, Deena. The children you see are my grandchildren, their parents are city guards," he said sadly, not needing to explain further.

"His wounds are grievous, and its against my better judgement in these times to help anyone who may be bitten, but I can't turn away someone in his condition."

His hair was all gray, as was his wife, and he had become slightly portly in his old age, but he had the grizzled look of a veteran, and a gaze that showed his concern and well being. "I own a fishing boat, its down at the end. I only have two conditions," he said sternly.

"We have to cover him, I will not let my grandchildren see something like this if I can avoid it, lady elf" he said to Calhera. "And this is for all of you, I put you in charge of him, if he turns, you do the job, understood?"

"We accept your conditions good sir. My Lady, do what you can for him. We have lost enough. We need to cast off quickly. He mentioned something about Dead Town. We went through dead town. There were mages there that were searching for something years ago. I fear what Genesis may have found himself. IF we can get to Chetheron we can get supplies, although I fear that I will have to stay with the boat. I'm not permitted into most cities. Long story."

They got to the boat and Turk'en threw his axe into it. The boat was little more than a dingy, but it was enough to seat everyone and hopefully sail out without detection. As soon as everyone was in he pushed the boat out away from the dock and jumped in the water. The water was cold but not frigid. The summers currants were keeping the water heated, but did nothing for the dead fish that were floating up from all the blood that poured into the sea. Turk'en pushed the boat out and hid under the bow of the ship kicked to get the boat out away from the port and still look derilected.

"Everyone stay under the canvas until we are out of site of the buildings. Turk'en was tired. He almost slipped into the depths on a few occasions, but determination kept him from letting go of the boat.

When they were away from the city, Turk'en pulled himself into the boat with the help from the fisherman and Aarowic.

He laid there in the boat for a moment or two catching his breath before he turned to Calhera.

"How is he?"

Calhera watched Akarmis like a hawk, bandaging and cleaning what she could, Deena helping when possible. They managed to stop the bleeding, and fought off most of the infection. Elric told them the seas were fairly calm, most other passengers did not feel this way, as Sherbert had fallen off nearly seven times.

It was nearly noon on the next day before they managed to awaken him, not by his choice either. His pain was tremendous, and they had to stop him from using one of his pistols on himself, his eyes were hollow, like a man with nothing left.

He spoke, but barely. He told them that Dead town was a priority, and that they could not stops along the way. Elric was nervous, but eventually agreed to take them, he had family that way, he needed to see if they were safe.

They sailed around the south side of the continent, seeing the horrors of Port skell in the light now. A lump of grief was in everyone's throat, all except Akarmis, he felt nothing, just pain. Just the urge to end the HUNT.

________________________________________________________

Elric and family wished them safety, as he quickly dropped them off and sailed away. Dead town was within sight of the shore, and it made everyone feel uneasy.

Things seemed... normal. Horde zombies milled about, buildings were in ruins, but from long ago.

Were they wrong?

They made their way to the city, the one armed man in the middle for his protection. Akarmis was disgusted with himself, but said nothing to the others.

The found a large hole in the wall of the city, not surprising to anyone, and made their way through. They darted between buildings, killing all of the horde they encountered.

A stalker jumped for them, and Akarmis slashed at it violently with his sword. His first blow knocked it to the ground, the next was a stab through its skull, the multiple blows following were for revenge's sake.

They made their way near the town square. Akarmis was the first to spot Genesis, standing on what was once a flowing fountain, his zombies almost grovelling at his feet.

The group stood hidden in a building, looking through a window. A voice cut the silence, "Sickening, isn't it?" asked Mathias, standing behind the group holding Tal' kren...

Aldion held Tal'Kren, "Thats called 'Divide and conquer'" he said, watching Erron run off. He saw Poporum just standing there, "And that, is called poor communication." He jumped out the window on a slightly shorter roof, then shimmied down a gutter pipe.

He saw no undead, but things were never as easy as he hoped. The door and windows to the building the others were going for was blocked, so he ran to the original building, holding his longsword at the ready.

He heard the moans and shuffling of the zombie, but could not see it anywhere. He made his way slowly to the broken staircase, walking carefully. He heard voices below, one was Poporum, and the other was very familiar. He jumped the hole the staircase and looked down.

"Hobmocker!?" he said in shock...

Silence. It was the first moment of it since Erron and Browden had come to this city under the mountain.

Silence.

Golden.

The undead were out there.

Waiting.

Hungry.

Erron, wanted to get to his feet. Get things into motion for them to either fortify themselves, or escape this horrible place. But instead he sat on the roof and thought. Though about love. Thought about life. Thought about death.

It was the silence that was the worst. When fighting the undead he was able to forget the pain. He had found peace. His loved ones weren't in pain anymore.

But it didn't end the hurt.

That cold hard hurt deep inside. Cold like the dirt under your fingernails.

Cold like your heart not being filled with love and not quite being black either.

Cold.

Like a Frozen Hell.

Down the stairs Aelemar went. Where was that Riverfolk?

"Ah!" She said as she barely kept her self from running down a hole in the middle of the stairs. She looked around the corner, no zombie. "It must still be coming."She said to herself. "Oh, I know I'll regret this." She said bending down and poking her head in the hole. Seeing the Riverfolk and Kender, she climbed down the hole herself she asked,"I thought there were only one of you. Oh, I think we better get on the roof before they leave us."

Aelemar then went back up to the roof to Herod and took her turn using the rope to climb down.

Hobmocker just kind of shrugged at the chaos going on around him. If the zombies got too close, he could probably just run.

A fellow kender, an evil-looking one, Aldion, Erron, and some random stranger that would probably get himself killed before too long were close by. Business as usual with this group, though Hob had to admit Aldion with a baby was new, and that he was a little sad about the constant death of the new people around him. And it wasn't like they died a good death either. Just CHOMP! And you're a zombie. Nobody fell off of buildings anymore and shattered all the bones in their bodies, or got swallowed by dragons. The world, or worlds, had just plain become boring, no fun places. Sighing, the kender put on his best smile and nodded enthusiastically at Aldion. If the world wasn't gonna give the kender fun, he'd make some fun dammit!

"Yippers! It's me. Not to hold things up seeing as there zombies wanting to eat our brains, not that that's any different than usual, but when did you get a kid?"

Erron sat on the roof, contemplating where he had been in his life.

A young boy who murdered his abusive adoptive father, who was arrested and set for execution in Peregren until a young Darkling girl named Sabal had rescued him.

A young man who had fallen in love with a beautiful woman and the two had a son.

A grown man who watched his son and wife be turned into the undead.....who he had to to kill himself.

Later, learning all of the chaos had been caused by him in the first place.

A former King of an Undead world, now nothing more than a fugitive.

Lost in the cold, stuck under a mountain, with hundreds of undead around.

It was then Erron realized...

...the worst possible thing had just happened.

He had heard the voice of Hobmocker.

Erron groaned.
